The Austin Assessment has been an invaluable tool used for screening and assessing visual processing in a multi-disciplinary cerebral visual impairment (CVI) clinic. The Austin Assessment allows us to systematically quantify visual processing speed and
accuracy. Additionally, it allows us to assess a child’s visual search and eye tracking ability and compare the result to children of similar ages.

The assessment starts off with a simple display and gets more complex as the individual continues, helping the clinician understand how complexity impacts visual processing. Results from the Austin Assessment help the team make recommendations for visual task and environmental adaptations to help the individual function more independently and effectively throughout the day. Moreover, it functions as a visual tool, helping parents and educators better grasp the challenges of children with CVI.
